EVENIA
Discovering Discovery day
On the 6th of October we celebrate Discovery Day once again. We have been celebrating this holiday since… well, forever. But where exactly did our traditions on this holiday come from? Let me tell you!

Origins story
We’ve all learned our country’s history in our history classes in school. So, we all know how Evenia came to be. But let me remind you of some details. After Eve took the kids and separated from Adam, she had a long journey ahead of her. Six and a half months to be exact, she wandered around until she found the paradise, we now call home. So, to show our love for our country and our founding mother, the 6th of October, the day Eve discovered our lands, became known as Discovery Day. This day is now our official national holiday.
Our traditions
Discovery Day is filled with beautiful traditions, but have you ever wondered where they came from? The first and most striking tradition is of course, the Discovery Parade through the capital, Eden. Here all the mothers of Evenia take their children on a 6.5-km walk through the city. This represents the six and a half months Eve and her children travelled until they finally settled down in Evenia. During the parade, all the women wear their traditional colourful Evenian clothing to show their love for Evenia.
After the parade, our second tradition starts. When everyone gets back home, mothers and their children go to the kitchen and start making traditional Pretty Pastry. Usually, this is an apple cake with at least three layers. Then moms and children enjoy their delicious creation and play games, watch movies, play with their pets, …
The most important part about Discovery day is not the parade or the cakes. It’s to bring the families of Evenia together and give children and their mothers a day when they get to celebrate how lucky they are to have each other and to love one another.

Happy Discovery Day Evenians!!
